Statement by Chairman of the OECS Authority on Deadly Explosion in St. Lucia
Chairman of the OECS Authority, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris sends his thoughts and prayers to the people affected by Tuesday’s explosion at Farrand Quarry in St. Lucia.
“Your Caribbean neighbours offer deepest sympathy to you, the people of St. Lucia, especially the families and friends of the persons who were killed in the explosion. We pray for their souls and for all of you, as well as for the injured and their loved ones,” the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis said upon learning about the quarry explosion in Cul-de-Sac, Castries.
“We join Prime Minister the Honourable Allen Chastanet of St. Lucia in directing sentiments of thanks and praise towards the dedicated, skillful and fast-responding emergency and search-and-rescue personnel such as police and fire officers, as well as the doctors, nurses and other staff who are treating the casualties at the Victoria Hospital in Castries plus those medical practitioners from Martinique who are assisting in this time of need,” Prime Minister Harris said.
“It is in these agonizing moments that we not only grasp the frailty and fragility of life, but we are also reminded of the incredible beauty and generosity of the human spirit. It is also in tragedy that we cherish the value of life and hold fast to our family and communal ties,” Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris further stated.
“The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and indeed the whole Caribbean community stand with St. Lucians during this difficult, emotional time and pray for their healing,” Prime Minister Harris also said.
