OECS Commission in Solidarity with the People and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

OECS Media Release

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission extends its deepest condolences and solidarity to the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that have claimed lives, caused widespread destruction, and brought profound grief to countless families and communities.

The OECS Commission joins the people of Venezuela in mourning those who have lost their lives and expresses its heartfelt sympathies to all who have been injured, displaced, or otherwise affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the first responders, medical personnel, emergency workers, and volunteers whose courage and dedication continue to bring hope and relief to those in need.

Across Venezuela, families and communities now face the difficult task of rebuilding their homes and restoring their lives. The road ahead will demand patience, tenacity, and resilience. The OECS Commission is confident that the strength, determination, and solidarity of the Venezuelan people will again guide the nation through this challenging period.

The peoples and Governments of the Eastern Caribbean stand in solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela during this time of crisis. The OECS Commission reaffirms the bonds of friendship that unite our region and conveys its sincere wishes for strength, healing, and a swift recovery for all those affected.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an International Organisation dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance among independent and non-independent countries in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS came into being on June 18th 1981, when seven Eastern Caribbean countries signed a treaty agreeing to cooperate with each other while promoting unity and solidarity among its Members. The Treaty became known as the Treaty of Basseterre, so named in honour of the capital city of St. Kitts and Nevis where it was signed. The OECS today, currently has twelve members, spread across the Eastern Caribbean comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Saint Martin.
