OECS Commission Celebrates Saint Lucia's 46 Years of Independence

OECS Media Release

Joining the celebrations under the theme "Douvan Ansanm: Health and Well-Being for a Prosperous Nation", the OECS Commission congratulates Saint Lucia on its 46th Anniversary of Independence on February 22, 2025. In commemoration, the Director General of the OECS, Dr. Didacus Jules, made official remarks to the people and Government of Saint Lucia:

"Today, we gather to celebrate a defining moment in Saint Lucia’s history - our 46th year as an independent nation. It is a time for joy, reflection, and renewal of purpose. This year’s theme, “Douvan Ansanm: Health and Well-Being for a Prosperous Nation,” is more than a slogan - it is a call to action. A reminder that in a world shaken by crises, our strength is in our unity, our resilience is in our well-being, and our prosperity is in our collective resolve to move forward - together."
Saint Lucia, we have come far, but we have further to go. Our future is not written in the struggles of today, but in the resilience we show in overcoming them. The path ahead will not be easy, but history has proven time and again that we are a people of boundless courage and unshakable determination.

In his speech, Dr. Jules called on Saint Lucians to rekindle the spirit of community which has led the island to countless moments of success in the past. He also encouraged nationals to treat good health as an imperative for the country, not just as a personal asset; and to navigate global uncertainty with resilience.

Nationals of the OECS are welcome to celebrate with Saint Lucia under this year's inspirational independence anniversary theme promoting overall well-being.
