Message of Condolence

OECS Media Statement

The OECS Commission extends deepest condolences to the Director, staff and students of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) on the passing of three students enrolled in the college.  In particular, the Commission sympathizes with the Director, Mr. Nigel Scott and Mrs. Hazel Roberts, Head of Department Hospitality, and the SVGCC's representative on the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Tourism (ECIT) Task Force, as they mourn the death of three hospitality students from the Community College who died this morning in a car accident on their way to the airport.  The students were due to return to St Vincent after their internship at the Crane Hotel in St Phillips, Barbados.

OECS Tourism Specialist, Dr. Lorraine Nicholas noted that coincidentally, the OECS Network of Excellence for Tourism and Hospitality Training an Education (NETHTE) project team was in constant communication with Mr. Scott and Mrs. Roberts to organize a visit by a consultant on the NETHTE project, Dr. Jennifer Edwards who is currently on the campus attempting to console the grieving SVGCC family. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the family and friends of the students.

Back to www.oecs.int

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an International Organisation dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance among independent and non-independent countries in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS came into being on June 18th 1981, when seven Eastern Caribbean countries signed a treaty agreeing to cooperate with each other while promoting unity and solidarity among its Members. The Treaty became known as the Treaty of Basseterre, so named in honour of the capital city of St. Kitts and Nevis where it was signed. The OECS today, currently has eleven members, spread across the Eastern Caribbean comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
