Hurricane Irma: Diplomatic note from the Embassy of France to the OECS Member States and Barbados

The Embassy of France to the OECS Member States and to Barbados, in Residence in Saint-Lucia presents its compliments to all Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations accredited to Saint-Lucia and has the honour to bring to their attention the following:
- The island of St. Martin was severely affected by Hurricane Irma. As regards the French side of the island
- The casualty toll is presently of 10 deads. This number is likely to increase over time. Seven people are missing. The embassy is not aware of foreign victims.
- Rescue facilities for civilian and military personnel, food and heavy equipment were massively set up by the authorities with the assistance of the French armed forces. Operations to restore essential services are underway. The most vulnerable people, especially the very sick, have already been evacuated to Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The French authorities have opened a special address to provide information and to answer questions concerning the situation of foreign nationals in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthelemy: cellule.crise@diplomatie.gouv.fr. This crisis information unit can answer in English.
