Ambassador of Argentina to the OECS Presents His Credentials to OECS Director General

OECS Media Release

Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), His Excellency Ciliberto Infante, presented his Letters of Credence to the Director General of the OECS, Dr. Didacus Jules, at a virtual ceremony held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the OECS headquarters in Castries.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Infante said that it was an honour to present his credentials as Ambassador of Argentina to the OECS. This, he noted, presents an opportunity for a more constructive relationship between Argentina and the OECS.

In accepting the Letters of Credence Dr. Jules stated that,

“This occasion offers a great opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved together thus far and to look forward to what we can accomplish in the future. It is our hope that under your watch, the relationship between the OECS and the Argentine Republic will continue to flourish for the benefit of our respective peoples and regions.”

Members of the diplomatic corps who were in attendance congratulated Ambassador Infante on his accreditation to the Oganisation.

During a courtesy meeting that immediately followed the Ceremony, the Director General and the Ambassador explored priority areas for cooperation between the OECS and Argentina. These included, among others, health and education resilience, youth engagement through education and sports, and technology innovations

In his closing remarks, the Director General welcomed the Ambassador to the OECS and underscored the Organisation’s commitment to enhanced cooperation with Argentina in areas of mutual interest for the progress and well-being of the peoples of Argentina and the OECS region.

Formal relations between the Argentine Republic and the OECS were established in 2011. The partnership reflects Argentina’s generosity and willingness to contribute towards the overall development of the OECS region.

In addition to his appointment as Argentina’s ambassador to the OECS, Ambassador Infante is also accredited to Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an International Organisation dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance among independent and non-independent countries in the Eastern Caribbean. The Treaty became known as the Treaty of Basseterre, so named in honour of the capital city of St. Kitts and Nevis where it was signed. The OECS today, currently has eleven members, spread across the Eastern Caribbean comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
